We are delighted to offer yoga and mindfulness for children with varied needs – everyone welcome! This is available on a 1:1 session or with a group (see timetable). If you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free send a message:
A maximum of 15 children will be accepted per session. Parents/carers are encouraged to stay throughout the first few sessions. Before the very first session, parent/carers are also advised to have a brief consultation to highlight any particular issues we need to be aware of.
During a typical session, we will spend time dancing, making shapes with our bodies, strengthening, stretching and balancing along the way. Breathing more deeply and learning how to be aware and how to control the breath, all in a fun way!
It all involves interaction. During the class, kids are not always isolated on their own yoga mats. Partner and group poses, co-operative games, self-expression and creativity, are common sights in a session. Developing social skills is a part of, and as important as, self-development. Props are used such as scarves, cuddly toys, stretchy bands, balloons, picture cards etc. Music is also played and if it feels right for everyone on the day, we sometimes have a little song or two.
And its all done without the big lectures. It is discovered through doing, rather than talking about it!
Yoga teachers have long promoted the benefits of yoga including stress and pain relief, improved circulation and digestion, better body alignment, increased concentration, deeper, more relaxed breathing, and a sense of well-being and inner peace. There is no difference, yoga brings the same benefits to children with special needs as well as:
- Improved connections to other people in the world
- More confidence and higher self esteem
- Awareness and better control of their body
- Calming and gentle attitude
- Relaxation and breathing awareness
And most important of all – its FUN!
Have a great time with your family and friends – everyone welcome! You don’t have to be flexible or of a certain size or era – absolutely everybody can benefit from yoga!
